August 2021 Update
Good morning Springfield!
It has been some time since I have been able to sit down and write about all of the work that I and so many of you are putting in to become Springfield’s newest At Large City Councilor!
In June, the campaign began its’ first full month of door knocking. On June 10th, we had a very successful campaign kickoff fundraiser at Palate Springfield! Fresh Paint Springfield came to the city and produced incredible works of art across the city. We welcomed two amazing new businesses in White Lion Brewing Company, and Dewey’s Lounge. Springfield Together once again put on a great event for Springfield families at the Tiffany Street Elks Lodge in East Forest Park. I was able to return to serve a meal at Friends of The Homeless on Worthington Street. Thank you to Nathan Bills Bar & Restaurant for hosting the Jessy’s Fight 5K on June 27th and raising much needed money for cancer research. This was all while making calls with residents looking to learn more about the campaign, and knocking nearly every day! We also started handing out our campaign yard signs, and they’re a hit!
During July, we continued to engage with every neighborhood in the city. Many thanks to the East Springfield Neighborhood Council for inviting me to the Check Your Speed event on July 12th. On July 19th, I participated in Foster Memorial Church’s Messengers of Peace event. On July 22nd, I visited the Lighthouse Clubhouse on State Street to learn about how the organization supports individuals with disabilities find housing, work, and dignity. On July 24th, we had our first campaign standout in Sixteen Acres on my birthday - look for more of these!
On August 1st we held our first Meet & Greet in Sixteen Acres, and we are excited to conduct many more over the next three months. I attended the Movies In The Park event at Nathan Bill Park on August 6th and met with local residents to discuss their needs and concerns. Thank you to the members of St. George Greek Orthadox Cathedral in Memorial Square for inviting me to their coffee hour on August 8th. Finally, on August 14th, we had a great standout at the X in Forest Park, followed by door knocking in Pine Point, and culminating in canvassing at the Springfield Jazz & Roots festival!
Did I also mention that we were in the news? Masslive Subscribers can read about the announcement of my candidacy by clicking here. The article was also in the August 13th edition of The Republican.
We are now just 75 days out from Election Day, November 2nd. In the final ten weeks of this campaign we will need to knock and flyer several thousand more homes, attend candidates nights at Civic Association Meetings, host another fundraiser, participate in meet & greets, engage with voters at civic events, and work to get out the vote! I need all of your help in this - we’ve come this far, and now we need to shift into an even higher gear to the finish line! Here are some great ways that you can help with the campaign:
Host a yard sign
Hold a campaign standout with our signs in your neighborhood
Invite your neighbors and family to a Meet & Greet event at your home
Introduce me to your friends and family living in Springfield
Invite me to come speak with your co-workers at your business
Donate - in the final months of the campaign we’ll have major expenses, including campaign mailers and advertising
I couldn’t have made it this far without you, and I know that with our combined efforts, we’ll be rewarded on November 2nd with an election victory! Let’s make Springfield all it can be - Vote Latorre!
